"Our quality inspectors work with QC One software in different locations worldwide"
A freshly picked citrus fruit from grandma's garden. There is actually nothing that tastes better. At least that's what Stephan Rötzer stated when he founded SanLucar in sunny Valencia in 1993. His dream was to grow fruits and vegetables with the taste as if you had just picked it yourself. Thirty years later, his company has some 3,400 employees in more than 30 countries and the widest top-quality assortment in the market, including fresh fruits, vegetables, smoothies, fresh-cut greens, flowers, plants and ice cream.
From fruit sowing to delivery to supermarkets, SanLucar maintains very strict quality standards. All their products are checked several times after picking. Only the best are packed and can start their journey to supermarkets labeled according to strict quality standards.
Careful selection
Antonio Soria, quality engineer at SanLucar who, together with the IT team, is responsible for translating process optimization into QC One, explains that quality is paramount at SanLucar. "Our company carefully selects its partners to work with. From growers and sales channels to external parties who support our production processes."
According to the Spaniard, as a large international company with production around the world, they needed a powerful and more innovative system that would allow them to work on the quality of their products in a cyber-secure and data-driven way with an eye on the future. "Through a global tender, we ended up with QC One."
Smart software
SanLucar has the Dutch software system QC One in use at several locations. "The number of locations using it is growing, partly because we continue to grow. We also use the software in the office to check claims on labels and to verify that all quality controls have been carried out correctly. The system provides us with every conceivable piece of information about suppliers and products, which fits seamlessly with our data-driven culture. The app makes it possible for our quality inspectors on site to perform export, import stock and shelf life inspections. During the inspections, all tools are available in the app to create a complete and professional report. A useful functionality is a scanning function, which by means of a barcode scan in the app, creates an inspection directly from our ERP.
Antonio further praises the fact that thanks to QC One, he can train (new) employees to speak the quality language and adopt the jargon that has existed within SanLucar all these years into the software.
Brand-specific standard
SanLucar's quality control engineers now use all the available features of QC One in their quality controls. From the moment the software is installed, the same quality standard also applies at all parts of the production chain and the templates can be adjusted for relevance to that specific point or type of inspection. "This is fully secured and supported through the software. In the app, packaging types, designations and codings are an integral part of an inspection report and record. QC One allows us to manage all product specifications and translate them into inspection templates with our brand-specific features," Antonio says.
Working more efficiently
According to Antonio, QC One is a very flexible system that is set up according to the applicable quality requirements. The system also allows SanLucar to work data-driven. "We have gone from a reactive to a proactive way of working. This gives us more control over our product quality," he knows.
QC One now sets the process standard. The app provides feedback directly to the ERP system. "All this makes our work so much more efficient than before. It's incredible how many of our wishes have been integrated into the system. And we continue to optimize things together. We can already no longer imagine having to do without this system."
Pursuing goals
Antonio closes by saying that he can recommend working with QC One to everyone. "The personal collaboration with the team at QC One is fantastic. We are a demanding lot, but it just works incredibly well between us. The people at QC One know exactly where our priorities lie. That is very pleasant to work with. In any case, it helps us pursue our goals."
