Quality monitoring in the supermarket

  • Instant insight into product quality as perceived by consumers
  • Weekly measurements for grip on taste and shelf life - Benchmark on retailer, supplier or product

Understanding performance on the store floor

The supermarket shelf is where consumers make their judgments and the AGF department and is where a retailer can differentiate itself on quality. However, quality of AGF and other fresh produce can fluctuate greatly due to seasonal influences, origin, variety, transportation, storage and store conditions.

Only with structural measurement throughout the year can this variation be recognized and adjusted. Continuous quality monitoring gives you continuous insight into how products are actually performing on the store floor.

Our approach to quality monitoring

We measure quality exactly as the consumer experiences it. Products are purchased weekly from supermarkets and then analyzed in the laboratory. We look at factors that influence appearance, taste and shelf life, such as spoilage, color, freshness, brix, acidity and hardness structure and shelf life.

We process the results in short and clear reports that are directly usable for purchasing, quality management and product development.

Measuring through the eyes of the consumer

We measure quality through "the eyes of the consumer." We use this to judge whether a Consumer is satisfied and combine this with product-specific characteristics such as color, firmness, hardness and brix. For convenience and sliced products, shelf life, cut and recipe are important.

This creates a 360-degree picture of the product: a combination of hard measurements and taste and appearance assessments.
