Wheyco about Normec Foodcare Online

Wheyco (formerly DVNutrition) has been working with digital inspections and the online handbook for several years. Since 1.5 years they have also been working with the E-learning module. The company uses the unique link between the digital handbook and E-learning training courses. Mirjam Schalkwijk and Annette Wijnands introduced this working method from the HR department within the organization.

Securing Learning & Development

In 2017, the company was looking for a Learning & Development system to secure training and education within the organization. Mirjam and Annette sat down with several parties to compare the options in the market in terms of training software. Mirjam explains how she came to the choice of E-learning: "User-friendliness and accessibility of the E-learning system were paramount. Because we work a lot with procedures, work instructions and standards in our online manual, we were excited to train employees directly from this documentation and thus secure knowledge. The direct link between learning and our handbook makes this software approachable for our organization to work with."

User-friendliness

Good usability of the software was one of the main requirements for Wheyco to switch to online learning. "We felt that the E-learning should be very easy to apply, both for the employees and for management by our department. We find the module very user-friendly and also find that employees are able to follow the trainings easily. In case of questions, we are quickly helped further by the support department," Annette says enthusiastically.

Continuous improvement

Mirjam continues: "For years, we have been committed to continuous improvement. But how can you shape this in an organization? The link between the digital handbook and E-learning offers a solution here." With this feature, Wheyco links documents from the handbook to an E-learning training course. In case of changes in documents or new documents, employees are immediately invited to a new E-learning. Via the document matrix, the company thus has continuous insight into which employee has achieved which competencies and is thus employable for a position. Mirjam talks enthusiastically about the experiences with this link: "This way the knowledge of our employees is always up-to-date. They have the competencies needed to perform a function. In addition to the E-learning training, changes are also trained on the job. Only when employees learn about the change, are willing to work with it AND the change or modification is embedded in their hearts, heads and hands, is the process truly secured."

Flexibility and demonstrability

Mirjam and Annette see with the organization that digital training with E-learning fits the modern way of training. In addition, for the 24-hour production - where work is done continuously in shifts - it offers an important practical advantage. Annette: "You are no longer dependent on training sessions that you have to schedule during office hours. People can attend training sessions in their own working hours. They decide for themselves what is a quiet and suitable time to do this. Moreover, during an audit it is also easy to demonstrate how you have secured training and education within the organization."

Food Safety Culture

Moving from external training to online learning meant the a big change. "There is much more training now than before, but we do have the impression as a result that it has become more alive. For example, we now notice that people themselves raise the alarm if a training course has expired or if they have failed. We have created more personal responsibility. E-learning is now seen as a normal way of training within the development process of employees. I am therefore very proud that all employees follow the E-learning training courses neatly and on time," Mirjam concludes with a proud smile on her face.
