The important role of water
Rens Peeters, pig farming specialist with a focus on water at Voergroep Zuid, optimizes water quality at farmers on a daily basis. "Water is a neglected child in livestock farming," says Rens. "While it is actually of great importance for animal health and performance. A pig can go two minutes without air, three days without water and two to three weeks without food. Yet water is often underestimated as a factor in achieving good results in the barn."
Rens regularly performs water checks on customers of Voergroep Zuid. "I take water samples and we have them analyzed at Normec Robalab on several important parameters. The results of the water check give us valuable insights," Rens explains. "Based on these results, we advise our customers specifically on the steps they need to take to improve their water quality."
About Voergroep Zuid
Voergroep Zuid is a leading producer and supplier of high-quality compound feed for pigs, cattle, goats and poultry. The company serves farms in the Southern Netherlands and Belgium and is among the top 5 compound feed companies in the Netherlands. Voergroep Zuid strives for sustainability and works as much as possible with raw materials from the region.
Combining visual insights and figures
For Voergroep Zuid, the combination between practical experience and scientific knowledge is important. "When I come to a customer and look into the pipes with an endoscope, we often see immediately where the problem is. When we combine that with a water analysis from Normec Robalab, we get a complete and reliable picture of the situation. This combination of visual and analytical underpinning helps us tremendously in convincing farmers to take action," said Rens.
Effective regional cooperation
The cooperation between Voergroep Zuid and Normec Robalab has deep roots in Deurne, where both companies have their origins. This regional character increases the effectiveness of the cooperation. "The laboratory is right around the corner here," says Rens. "That saves a lot of time when dropping off samples and ensures quick results. The welcome from colleagues in Deurne is warm. There is always time for a chat and if you have any questions they are there for you. We enjoy coming there.".
