Statutory sampling
For over 30 years, J. van Leijsen B.V. has specialized in carrying out transport work, contract work and manure distribution. From manure transport and removal to manure processing: the offer towards customers is very complete. The company was founded by Joop and Henrietta van Leijsen. Within the company, their daughter Minke Hage - Van Leijsen is responsible for arranging the manure analyses.
Minke: "We transport manure from Brabant to Zeeland. We collect manure from livestock farmers and then bring this manure to arable farmers for use on the land. It is a legal requirement that every load of manure is sampled and analyzed to determine the phosphate and nitrogen levels. This allows the land to be optimally fertilized and prevents over-fertilization.
Always prepared for changes
A sampling device is standard on every slurry tanker. It automatically takes a laboratory sample during loading of the cargo. To analyze the samples, J. van Leijsen B.V. purchases a total package from Normec Dumea. The company has been a customer there for about ten years, after first doing business with another laboratory. Dumea takes care of the transport and analysis of the laboratory samples and also takes care of the independent sampling of thick fraction.

In the manure world there are seasonal peaks. In spring then a lot of manure is driven onto the land. It's important for arable farmers to know how much animal manure they can still apply before they have to switch to fertilizer. Then I can always call the lab to ask when the analysis is ready. Normec Dumea just understands how our world works."
In the manure industry, changes can just happen quickly, especially with new legislation. According to Minke, Normec Dumea is always prepared for this: "If there are certain things coming up in the sector, they are always proactive about it as well. That's very nice for us."

Extra information as an extra service
The collaborative nature of Normec Dumea is an important reason for J. van Leijsen B.V. to work together for years, says Minke. The speed and quality of the analyses also weigh heavily: "We have 10,000 samples analyzed per year, because we have 20 trucks on the road. Then the fine communication with Normec Dumea is an advantage. Moreover, they provide us with extra information about the manure, such as the dry matter and organic matter content. This allows us to offer our customers extra service. Arable farmers want good manure. With the analyses of Normec Dumea, we can substantiate that. Thus, we can advise livestock farmers to make adjustments in the feed, based on the values in the analyses. That's how everyone wins in the end."
