Legally Required Sampling
J. van Leijsen B.V. has specialized in transportation services, contract work, and manure distribution for over 30 years. From manure delivery and removal to manure processing, the company offers its customers a comprehensive range of services. The company was originally founded by Joop and Henrietta van Leijsen. Their daughter, Minke Hage–Van Leijsen, is responsible for arranging manure analyses within the company.
Minke: “We transport manure from Brabant to Zeeland. We collect manure from livestock farmers and then deliver it to crop farmers for use on their fields. It is required by law that every load of manure be sampled and analyzed to determine its phosphate and nitrogen content. This ensures the soil is fertilized optimally and prevents over-fertilization.
Always Prepared for Changes
Every slurry tank is equipped with a sampling device as standard. This device automatically takes a laboratory sample while the load is being filled. To analyze the samples, J. van Leijsen B.V. purchases a comprehensive service package from Normec Dumea. The company has been a client there for about ten years, having previously worked with another laboratory. Dumea handles the transport and analysis of the laboratory samples and also performs independent sampling of the thick fraction.
Minke says they’re very pleased with their relationship with Normec Dumea: “We’re really very satisfied. You never feel like you’re bothering them when you come to them with questions. In the manure industry, there are seasonal peaks. In the spring, a lot of manure is spread on the fields. For crop farmers, it’s important to know how much animal manure they’re still allowed to spread before they have to switch to synthetic fertilizer. I can always call the lab to ask when the analysis will be ready. Normec Dumea just gets how our industry works.”
In the manure industry, rapid changes can occur at any time, especially due to new legislation. According to Minke, Normec Dumea is always prepared for this: “When certain developments arise in the sector, they’re always already proactively addressing them. That’s really great for us.”
We’re really very satisfied. You never feel like you’re bothering them when you come to them with questions.

Additional information as an extra service
Normec Dumea’s proactive approach is a key reason why J. van Leijsen B.V. has been working with them for years, says Minke. The speed and quality of the analyses are also major factors: “We have 10,000 samples analyzed each year because we have 20 trucks on the road. So the smooth communication with Normec Dumea is definitely an advantage. Moreover, they provide us with additional information about the manure, such as the dry matter and organic matter content. This allows us to offer our customers an extra service. Arable farmers want high-quality manure. With Normec Dumea’s analyses, we can substantiate that. This allows us to advise livestock farmers on how to adjust their feed based on the values in the analyses. Ultimately, everyone benefits.”
