BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety version 9 was published August 2022. As of February 1, 2023, testing against this standard will begin.

With the publication of version 9, the BRCGS standard continues to evolve. Version 9 continues to focus on management commitment and an HACCP-based food safety system with the goal of managing product safety, legislation and quality for food products.

In addition, the product authenticity component is additionally named in the various standard elements. Also, food safety and quality culture is an important theme in the new BRCGS version.

Adjustments compared to version 8

The new BRCGS version includes changes for the following topics, among others:

  • Option for mixed audit
  • Additional encouragement of a food safety culture
  • Addition of requirements in internal audits and inspections to make them even more complete
  • VACCP and TACCP in supplier audits
  • Addition of requirements in product testing

Version 9 is available in multiple languages and can be downloaded from the BRCGS website.

BRC Food

The BRC Global standard for Food Safety is a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) recognized standard. It was developed in 1998 by British retailers. When you are BRC certified, your potential and current customers know immediately that your products are safe, legal and of high quality. This puts your company in a good bargaining position. Other benefits of BRC certification include:
