The final version of BRCGS Packaging Materials 7 was published on October 28, 2024. Audits according to BRCGS Packaging Materials 7 will take place from April 28, 2025. In this paper, read the main changes from version 6 and discover tips for complying with these new requirements.

BRCGS Packaging Materials
BRCGS Packaging Materials is the first packaging standard recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). It applies not only to producers of food packaging, but also to producers of packaging for all applications, throughout the supply chain, including single-use products:
The standard contains the requirements for the manufacture of packaging materials used in the manufacture of and filling operations for:
- Food, beverage and feed products
- Hygiene-sensitive consumer products (including cosmetics and pharmaceuticals)
- Packaging materials for raw materials and other consumer products such as single-use disposable products (if applicable).
The requirements are also intended to apply to:
- manufacture of products/materials for processing or printing
- operations where packaging materials are supplied from stock involving additional product processing or repackaging
- the manufacture and supply of materials that have not been converted or partially converted and used or processed (e.g., inks, varnishes, coatings and adhesives)
- other products that use similar production technologies, but are not packaging, that would otherwise be considered consumer products, e.g., disposable cutlery and tableware, napkins, straws, polyethylene gloves
