The Important Role of Water
Rens Peeters, a swine farming specialist focusing on water at Voergroep Zuid, works daily to optimize water quality on farms. “Water is often overlooked in livestock farming,” says Rens. “Yet it is actually of great importance for the animals’ health and performance. A pig can go two minutes without air, three days without water, and two to three weeks without food. Still, water is often underestimated as a factor in achieving good results in the barn.”
Rens regularly conducts water checks at Voergroep Zuid’s customers’ farms. “I take water samples, which we have analyzed by Normec Robalab for various key parameters. The results of the water analysis provide us with valuable insights,” Rens explains. “Based on these results, we provide our customers with targeted advice on the steps they need to take to improve their water quality.”
About Voergroep Zuid
Voergroep Zuid is a leading producer and supplier of high-quality compound feed for pigs, cattle, goats, and poultry. The company serves farms in the southern Netherlands and Belgium and ranks among the top 5 compound feed companies in the Netherlands. Voergroep Zuid is committed to sustainability and uses regionally sourced raw materials as much as possible.
Combining Visual Insights and Data
For Voergroep Zuid, the combination of practical experience and scientific knowledge is crucial. “When I visit a customer and inspect the pipes with an endoscope, we often see right away where the problem lies. When we combine that with a water analysis from Normec Robalab, we get a complete and reliable picture of the situation. This combination of visual and analytical evidence helps us tremendously in convincing farmers to take action,” says Rens.
Effective Regional Collaboration
The collaboration between Voergroep Zuid and Normec Robalab has deep roots in Deurne, where both companies originated. This regional connection enhances the effectiveness of the collaboration. “The lab is right around the corner,” says Rens. “That saves a lot of time when dropping off samples and ensures quick results. The colleagues in Deurne always give us a warm welcome. There’s always time for a chat, and they’re ready to help if you have any questions. We enjoy visiting them.”
