SanLucar on Normec QC One

More and more retailers are choosing to stock SanLucar fruits and vegetables on their shelves. This is due to the products’ high quality standards. The Spanish company behind the premium brand has complete control over the production chain through its own cultivation and adheres to very strict quality guidelines. Antonio Soria, quality technician at SanLucar: “We leave nothing to chance. We now use QC One software at various locations worldwide.”

A freshly picked citrus fruit from Grandma’s garden. There’s really nothing that tastes better. At least, that’s what Stephan Rötzer said when he founded SanLucar in sunny Valencia in 1993. His dream was to grow fruits and vegetables that tasted as if you’d just picked them yourself. Thirty years later, his company employs some 3,400 people in more than thirty countries and offers the market’s broadest range of top-quality products, including fresh fruit, vegetables, smoothies, fresh-cut vegetables, flowers, plants, and ice cream.

From sowing the seeds to delivery to supermarkets, SanLucar adheres to very strict quality standards. All of their products are inspected multiple times after harvesting. Only the best are packaged and, labeled according to these strict quality standards, begin their journey to the supermarkets.

Careful Selection

Antonio Soria, a quality technician at SanLucar who, together with the IT team, is responsible for implementing process optimization in QC One, explains that quality is the top priority at SanLucar. “Our company carefully selects the partners it works with—from growers and sales channels to external parties that support our production processes.”

According to the Spaniard, as a large international company with production facilities around the world, they needed a powerful and innovative system that would allow them to work on the quality of their products in a cyber-secure and data-driven manner, with an eye toward the future. “Through a global tender, we ended up choosing QC One.”

Smart Software

SanLucar uses the Dutch software system QC One at various locations. “The number of locations using it is growing, partly because we’re continuing to expand. We also use the software in the office to verify claims on labels and to check whether all quality controls have been carried out correctly. The system provides us with every conceivable piece of information about suppliers and products, which aligns seamlessly with our data-driven culture. Thanks to the app, our on-site quality inspectors can conduct export, import, inventory, and shelf-life inspections. During inspections, the app provides all the tools needed to create a complete and professional report. One handy feature is the scanning function, which, by scanning a barcode within the app, immediately creates an inspection record in our ERP system.

Antonio also praises the fact that, thanks to QC One, he can train (new) employees to speak the language of quality and incorporate the jargon that has existed within SanLucar for all these years into the software.

Brand-Specific Standard

SanLucar’s quality control inspectors now utilize all available features of QC One during their quality inspections. From the moment the software is installed, the same quality standard applies to all parts of the production chain, and the templates can be customized to suit the specific point or type of inspection. “This is fully ensured and supported by the software.” In the app, packaging types, designations, and codes are an integral part of an inspection report and record. QC One enables us to manage all product specifications and translate them into inspection templates with our brand-specific characteristics,” explains Antonio.

Working More Efficiently

According to Antonio, QC One is a highly flexible system designed to meet current quality requirements. The system also enables SanLucar to operate in a data-driven manner. “We’ve shifted from a reactive to a proactive approach. As a result, we have greater control over our product quality,” he notes.

QC One now sets the process standard. The app provides feedback directly to the ERP system. “All of this makes our work so much more efficient than before. It’s incredible how many of our requests have been integrated into the system. And we continue to optimize things together. We can’t even imagine having to work without this system anymore.”

Pursuing Goals

Antonio concludes by saying that he can recommend working with QC One to everyone. “The personal collaboration with the QC One team is fantastic. We’re a demanding client, but things just work incredibly well between us. The people at QC One know exactly where our priorities lie. That makes for a very pleasant working relationship. It definitely helps us pursue our goals.”
